This Brooklyn based group (Untouchable Force Organization) released one of hip hop’s most important and successful records, “Roxanne, Roxanne” in 1984. They weren’t always rapping. They entertained by dancing.. go ask Whodini. They danced for them.
They danced their way to the rap game.
Check out Doctor Ice and Kangol in 1984 on the Phil Donahue Show dancing.
I don’t know what to call their dance style… lockin, poppin, breakin or just genius.
Roxanne Roxanne, their big hot, spawned over 100 answer records. The most famous answer song was from Roxanne Shante.
After their first album, the Educated Rapper left the group. They recorded “Skeezer Pleezer,” which featured the popular song “Split Personality,” he returned for the rest of the tenure.
Their next album “Lethal” had more adult themes.
They never really reached the plateau they set for themselves with “Roxanne…” and as a result most of their later work was ignored. That sucked. Honestly, they should be honored by VH1 at the annual HIP HOP HONORS show.
Here are some of their classic hits on video!
